a pattern 'columnify' would be helpful. And, when several boxes are selected, the interpretation as 'move selected boxes' might be helpful.

Hi Hobbs, that sound interesting. Could you give a short sketch about how you imagine that? How should the 'column' layout be organized exactly? Maybe you have a screenshot of something you organized manually in that way?
As to 'move selected only' – do you mean, that only those selected should move arount those who are not? Or can you give an example?

Hello Heiko. For example in my public map 'Emergenz' I arranged the main boxes in columns. It was a bit difficult to place them like that, so an automatic arrangement would have been nice. The horizontal width doesn't need to be everywhere the same and should remain individually flexible. With 'move selected only' I meant, if you want more complicated arrangements, you might want only some boxes to flip into a list, and the rest to stay at their place (perhaps to built another list in a second step). Just an idea.

Hi, thanks for the example (attached). I see what you mean and how this would be useful. I'll put it on the list.
I also see why reordering only some of them would be useful. However I guess that it would be much more complex, because those being rearranged have to find their places around those who are not. So this will probably have to wait for now.

Hello! In my example, I first made a rough arrangement, and then tuned it. It would be enough to have the fine-tuning automated.
And perhaps you anyway consider - for manual rearrangement - to include the possibility that boxes (or larger structures like circles) push other structures aside. The manual rearrangement of lists or columns would become easier then. Or you might consider a kind of 'parking-area' where boxes can rapidly be 'parked' during rearrangement (in a predefined comfortable size).
